A meeting of the Cabinet of the ministers on Saturday finalised a five-member delegation led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to attend Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in on Sunday.
The Cabinet named the list of delegation that includes Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri; Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal; Dahal’s daughter Ganga Dahal, who is also his personal secretary; and the chief of protocol to travel alongside the prime minister, said Minister Giri.
On Thursday, the Indian government invited heads of state from other SAARC countries to witness the oath-taking ceremony.
Modi will assume office as prime minister for a historic third consecutive term as the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 293 seats in the recent elections. Modi is only the second Indian leader to win a third term after founding Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
In 2014, the then Prime Minister Sushil Koirala attended Modi’s oath-taking ceremony when he was elected prime minister for the first time.
