Pushpa Raj Giri has resigned as Corporate Manager of the Kantipur Media Group.
Giri, who is a former employee of Gorkha Media Network, tendered his resignation, after reports of his alleged involvement in a transaction of money from a cooperative to the company.
Kantipur Daily on Tuesday citing a police investigation finding reported the company received Rs2.5 million from the Butwal-based Supreme Cooperatives through Giri. GB Rai, chairman of the Gorkha Media Network, which is now dysfunctional, was also the patron of Supreme Cooperative and has been found to have obtained Rs140 million of the cooperative to the network in 2021.
Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane at the time was the managing director of the network.
Hundreds of depositors of the cooperative have demanded an investigation against Rai, among others, accusing them of embezzling the huge amount of money of the cooperative. Rai is on the run.
Giri said he quit to facilitate the investigation.
