Congress withdraws support to Dahal government
The decision comes on the heels of a move by Prime Minister Dahal to break the alliance with the largest party and join hands with CPN-UML.Post Report
The Nepali Congress has decided to withdraw its support to the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government.
A meeting of the party’s central work execution committee held on Tuesday decided to withdraw support to the government, said vice-president Dhanraj Gurung.
“It has been decided to withdraw the support given to the incumbent government. The meeting concluded that the party will play the role of constructive opposition,” said Gurung.
Breaking the alliance with the Congress, the largest party in the House of Representatives, the Prime Minister on Monday joined hands with the CPN-UML, the second-largest in the lower house.
Mistrust between the ruling Congress and the Maoist Centre has been brewing for a long time over the Cabinet reshuffle and post for National Assembly chair. Prime Minister Dahal was expressing his displeasure with some senior Congress leaders saying that Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba was not cooperating in his plan to replace some ministers despite their failure to perform well in the government.
Dahal, who became prime minister with the support of CPN-UML in December 2022, broke the coalition and joined hands with the Nepali Congress just after a few months.
