Amid continuing visits by Chinese leaders to Kathmandu and Nepali leaders and officials to various provinces of China continue, a Chinese delegation arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
Earlier, on Tuesday night, CPN (Unified Socialist) chair Madhav Kumar Nepal left for the Chinese city of Kunming leading a party delegation. Nepal is accompanied by his wife Gyatri Acharya Nepal, Agriculture Minister Beduram Bhusal and Unified Socialist leaders from seven provinces, according to the party leaders.
Likewise, Wang Junzheng, the secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) for Xizang Autonomous Region of China, landed in Kathmandu on Wednesday. He is on a five-day visit. National Assembly Vice-chair Urmila Aryal welcomed the Chinese delegation at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
A communique sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wang’s visit aims to maintain the ‘good momentum of high-level exchanges between two countries’.
Wang will discuss various facets of Nepal-Tibet relations and the agreements and accords signed between Nepal and China during the recent visit of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, among other things, according to foreign ministry officials.
Earlier, two CPC delegations, one from Chongqing and another from Chengdu, have already visited Nepal.
“Since we share a long border with Tibet, during the visit, our officials and the CPC delegation will discuss strengthening the bilateral ties along with implementing the agreements signed during the prime minister’s China visit,” said Rupak Sapkota, foreign affairs relations adviser to Dahal.
During Dahal’s China visit in September, Wang had called on Dahal.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, Prime Minister Dahal hailed Wang’s leadership and this position as the in-charge of Nepal-China relations.
Wang touched down on Wednesday morning by a Himalayan Airlines flight and paid a courtesy call on Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav. The Chinese leader is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Dahal on Thursday morning. He will also meet Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Anita Devi Sah, and Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, the Chairman of the National Assembly.
On Thursday evening, Timilsina will host a dinner in honour of the visiting delegation. On Friday, the Chinese delegates will visit Pokhara.
The delegation will visit Nepal-China cultural exchange project in Pokhara on Saturday and will call on the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha after arriving in Kathmandu later in the day.
On Sunday, the Chinese delegation will visit the post-earthquake rebuilding project in Bhaktapur and fly to Sri Lanka.
“The frequency of bilateral visit programmes resumed after Covid restrictions were lifted,” Sapkota said. “Since we share a long border and share trade and other relations with Tibet, the visits will contribute in strengthening bilateral ties.”
