Local and provincial governments should lead relief and rehabilitation, Congress suggests

The Nepali Congress has suggested that relief, rescue, and rehabilitation efforts should be led by provincial and local governments and monitored by the federal government.
On Tuesday morning, Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba along with other office-bearers met Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and suggested 21 points regarding relief, rescue and rehabilitation works after the Jajarkot earthquake.
The party praised the role of the federal and local governments after the earthquake and suggested that there is a need to further systematise the post-earthquake relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction works.
Congress has asked Prime Minister Dahal to provide tents, food, medicines and clothes in the earthquake-affected areas.
Similarly, the party suggested that temporary accommodation should be arranged as soon as possible considering the onset of winter.
During the meeting, Congress President Deuba handed over a check bearing Rs5 million to Prime Minister Dahal for immediate rescue and relief to the earthquake survivors on behalf of the party.
