UN Secretary General Guterres reaches Pokhara

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who reached Pokhara on Monday during his four-day Nepal visit, received a warm welcome in the tourist city.
Guterres, who landed at the old airport through a Nepal Army aircraft, was welcomed with various cultural tableaus.
The UN Secretary General was received by Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey, Tourism Minister Dipendra Bahadur Thapa and Pokhara Metropolitan City Chief Dhanraj Acharya among others. Tourism entrepreneurs and representatives of various organisations also reached the airport to welcome him.
After an overnight stay at a hotel in Pokhara, Guterres is scheduled to fly to Annapurna Base Camp at 6:30 am on Tuesday through a Nepal Army chopper. As per the itinerary, he will speak to residents about the impacts of climate change on their daily livelihood at the base camp located at an altitude of 4,130 metres.
Jaganras Gurung, chairman of the Chomrong Tourism Management Committee, said he would present a photo of the base camp to Secretary General Guterres as a token of love.
“We are excited about his visit and all necessary preparations have also been completed,” he said. “We will brief him on problems faced by this region due to global warming.”
Earlier today, Guterres reached the Everest region and spoke to residents.
Guterres arrived in Kathmandu in the wee hours of Sunday on a four-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
