The District Administration Office in Banke has partially relaxed the curfew order in Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City.
The authority relaxed curfew from 8am to 8pm on Thursday, but enforced prohibitory orders restricting gatherings of more than five people, processions, and demonstrations.
The meeting of the district security committee, however, decided to continue curfew from 8pm on Thursday to 6am on Friday.
The curfew order was clamped in Nepalgunj from Tuesday to avert possible communal violence.
Nepalgunj, a sub-metropolitan city in the western Tarai district of Banke, has historically been a melting pot for cultures and religions. People of all faiths have lived in harmony in the city, which is home to Hindus and Muslims as well as people of both hilly origin and Madhesi communities. The religious leaders have traditionally stood together whenever there have been attempts to disturb religious harmony in the past.
