Karki commission report must be made public: Congress president Thapa
NC shows readiness to cooperate with RSP in parliament on governance issues.Post Report
Nepali Congress president Gagan Thapa has said that those responsible for the incidents of September 8 and 9 must be held accountable, urging the government to make public the report of the probe commission led by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki.
“The report has been submitted to the government. It should be released, and action must be taken accordingly,” he said while speaking at the party’s Central Working Committee meeting in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
Calling for a faster pace of development, he, however, said curtailing constitutional freedoms in its name would not be acceptable. He said freedoms guaranteed by the constitution, including the right to speak and write, should be expanded rather than restricted.
Despite being in the opposition, he said the party is ready to cooperate with the Rastriya Swatantra Party, the largest party in the House of Representatives, on good governance.
Citing tension in West Asia, Thapa mentioned that some issues cannot be addressed by the government alone,
