The meeting of the House of Representatives scheduled for Sunday has been postponed to Monday.
Issuing a notice on Sunday afternoon, the Parliament secretariat informed that the meeting called for Sunday could not be held due to special reasons and it has been postponed to Monday at 3 pm.
Upon the request of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Sunday’s meeting which was slated for 1pm, was postponed until 3 pm. However, the meeting could not commence and has now been deferred.
The three major parties– the ruling CPN (Maoist Centre) and Nepali Congress and the main opposition CPN-UML– following a meeting earlier in the day, had reached an agreement to end the ongoing House obstructions.
Prime Minister Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and leader of the main opposition party KP Sharma Oli, during the meeting, had agreed to resume the House session slated for 3 pm today which included an address from the Prime Minister.
Opposition parties including the UML have been obstructing proceedings in both the House of Representatives and National Assembly for the last couple of days over the prime minister’s recent remarks.
On July 3, Prime Minister Dahal, while addressing a function to launch the book ‘Roads to the Valley: The Legacy of Sardar Pritam Singh in Nepal’, said that Sardar Pritam Singh, referred to as the pioneer trucking entrepreneur in Nepal, had made efforts to make him the prime minister of Nepal after holding multiple rounds of talks with political leaders in Delhi and Kathmandu.
“He [Singh] had once made efforts to make me the prime minister,” Dahal said. “He reached Delhi several times and held multiple rounds of talks with political leaders in Kathmandu to make me the prime minister.”
