Two more arrested in connection to Bhutanese refugee scam
Police sources say Govinda Chaudhary of Sunsari district and Ram Sharan KC of Kathmandu, were arrested from the Capital on Tuesday.Post Report
Police on Tuesday arrested two individuals in connection with the fake Bhutanese refugee scam.
According to police sources, Govinda Chaudhary and Ram Sharan KC, who were among the accused in relation to a case where many Nepalis were swindled out of millions of rupees in return for sending them to the United States as Bhutanese refugees, were arrested from Kathmandu.
Police informed that Chaudhary is a resident of Sunsari district while KC hails from Kathmandu. The police are yet to release official details about the arrests.
Earlier, the Nepal Police had arrested the current Secretary at Vice President’s Office and former Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, and Indrajit Rai, who served as security adviser to the then home minister Ram Bahadur Thapa for their active role in helping Nepalis forge documents in order for their emigration to the United States as Bhutanese refugees.
Meanwhile, CPN-UML Secretary and former deputy prime minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi has been absconding since May 4 after Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against him and his son. Police have already nabbed his son, Sandeep.
The police have also arrested Keshav Dulal, Sanu Bhandari, Sagar Thulung Rai, Tanka Gurung and Sandesh Sharma Pokhrel as suspected prime accused in the case. All of them had strong political connections.
Likewise, the police on Tuesday also conducted a raid on Rayamajhi’s Satodobato-based house.
