Post Report
A complaint has been registered at the Office of Chief Returning Officer in Chitwan-2 against Rastriya Swatantra Party President and candidate Rabi Lamichhane, accusing him of flouting the election code of conduct.
Dhruva Raj Pokharel, the representative of Nepali Congress candidate Jit Narayan Shrestha, filed a complaint demanding the cancellation of Lamichhane’s candidacy, saying he violated the poll code during by-elections held on Sunday.
Rajeshwar Khanal, president of the Congress Chitwan chapter, said they were forced to lodge the complaint ‘after Lamichhane violated the poll code openly.’
“Lamichhane breached the poll code seriously. He tried to influence voters by visiting polling centres by sloganeering and ringing bells (election symbol),” Khanal accused.
Voting was suspended for two hours at a voting centre in Nayakiran Secondary School following a dispute over a violation of the code of conduct.
During an all-party meeting held at that centre, the representatives of the Swatantra Party admitted that the code of conduct was violated.
Lamichhane is contesting against Jit Narayan Shrestha from the Nepali Congress and Ram Prasad Neupane, the district chapter chair of the UML.
