An Indian national was injured after unidentified persons opened fire at him near Mahagadhimai Municipality-2, Bhutahi bridge on Friday evening.
Police said two men on a motorcycle shot at 45-year-old Shiva Pujan Yadav of Pipara village in India while he was at an eatery.
Yadav had been staying in the municipality for the past five-six months.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Thapa, spokesperson for Bara District Police Office, said Yadav has sustained bullet injuries in his chest and is receiving treatment at the Birgunj-based Neuro Hospital.
Thapa said they have launched a manhunt to nab the offenders.
