Nepali Congress is leading the tally as vote counting for the House of Representatives and federal assemblies is underway.

Congress is followed by the CPN-UML, while CPN (Maoist Centre) is in the third position as of Tuesday morning. The Rabi Lamichhane-led Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is fourth in the vote count.

As of 8:20am, Congress is leading in 48 constituencies with victory in three constituencies and UML is leading in 38 constituencies with victory in one constituency.

The CPN (Maoist Centre) is leading in 12 constituencies while Rastriya Swatantra Party is surprisingly taking the lead in 11 constituencies.

Congress registered its first win in Mustang and later in Manang. Its candidate Yogesh Thakali Gauchan was elected from Mustang for the House of Representatives.

Congress candidate Tek Bahadur Gurung has won the single constituency of Manang with 2,577 votes against UML’s Polden Chhopang’s 2,247 votes.

Likewise, Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh has been re-elected a member of the House of Representatives from Kathmandu-1. Singh defeated his closest rival Rabindra Mishra of Rastriya Prajatantra Party by a margin of 125 votes. Singh received 7,143 votes, while Mishra got 7,018 votes.

Singh had defeated Mishra also in the earlier polls.

In the first general elections held following the promulgation of the new constitution, NC’s Singh had won with 10,936 votes while Mishra, contesting on behalf of Bibeksheel Sajha Party, had received 10,118 votes.

CPN-UML has also registered its first win in Lalitpur-2 with Prem Lal Maharjan of the party winning the seat with a huge margin. He secured 19,834 votes while his nearest competitor Sudin Shakya of Hamro Nepali Party got 10,440 votes. Buddha Ratna Maharjan of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) garnered 10,136 votes and common candidate of the ruling alliance Krishna Lal Maharjan of CPN (Unified Socialist) secured 9,539 votes.
