The Metropolitan Crime Division of Nepal Police has arrested a Pakistani couple for stealing money from three shops in Bhaktapur and Butwal.
Mohsin Khan and Puja Mohsin Khan were taken to custody from their hotel room in Sinamangal, Kathmandu, on Tuesday.
According to the division, the couple had struck two shops in Bhaktapur and made off with Rs 100,000 on Sunday evening alone.
Senior Superintendent of Police Sahakul Bahadur Thapa, chief of the division, said the husband and
wife first stole Rs 30,000 from RK Electric
and Electronic Centre at Suryabinayak Municipality-5
The couple used their charms to get the shop owner, Ram Krishna Shrestha, to show them the Nepali currency of high denominations, to which the latter obliged, thinking that the foreigner couple was just curious, Thapa said. Shrestha never suspected that the couple was there to rob him.
The Pakistani husband and wife snatched Rs 30,000 from Shrestha and escaped in a private car which, police later learned, was rented.
Later that same evening, the Khans used the same method to rob another shop dealing with kitchenwares not far away at Lokanthali. This time, they stole Rs 70,000 from the shop owner, Shanta Krishna Heka.
“The couple would ask shop owners to show them a bundle of Nepali currency on the pretext of having a look, and when the owners obliged, they would snatch the money and flee,” Thapa told the Post.
A few days before the husband and wife duo robbed the shops in Bhaktapur, they had stolen Rs 150,000 from Rising Sports Gallery, owned by Sharada Wagle, in Butwal, Rupandehi.
“The couple had used the same rented car to visit Butwal for their robbery escapade. Since they are foreigners it was hard to track them but we managed to track down their car using CCTV footage,” Thapa said.
Police recovered $2,950, Rs 137,500 and a few hundred Pakistani rupees from the coupleAccording to the division, the Khans have been sent to the Metropolitan Police Circle in Thimi, Bhaktapur, for investigation.
