Authorities have yet to reconstruct a quake-damaged police post at Simbhanjyang in Thaha Municipality, Makwanpur, even though more than three years have passed since the 2015 earthquake.
Police personnel of Simbhanjyang have been working from a tent in lack of a building.
One of the officers said they don’t even have a room to detain suspected criminals.
“We are compelled to sleep inside a single tent. There’s no room to keep inmates,” he said.
The plight of these officers doubles when it rains during summer or snows during winter.
The situation is similar at police posts in other parts of Makwanpur, including Chitlang, Thingan, Bharta, Kandrang, Phakel, Bhorkeni and Dandakharka.
Officers stationed at Chitlang Police Post have been working from a dilapidated Pati (a traditional public shelter). “The provincial government has allocated budget to construct only seven police post buildings out of 17 that were damaged by the earthquake,” said SP Gurung.
