Organising a press conference on Friday the party said that it decided to resort to stern protests against the government.
“The Nepali Congress has seriously taken the forceful endorsement of the Medical Education Bill by the parliament on Friday,” party spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma said in the press conference, adding, “The government has openly invited the opposition party for the battle by trying to scrape the hospitals established in the name of former Prime Ministers and Nepali Congress leaders Girija Prasad Koirala and Sushil Koirala.”
The party also expressed its dissatisfaction over the role of House Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, accusing Mahara of not being an impartial speaker.
“The role of Speaker should be impartial and neutral. But Mahara misused his post and supported the government by acting as a party cadre. We outrightly condemn Mahara’s act today,” the party said.
Following the endorsement of the bill, the opposition lawmakers obstructed the House chanting slogans against the government.
Nepali Congress lawmakers had been protesting the bill, saying that it didn't incorporate the demands of agitating Dr Govinda KC and recommendations of Mathema committee report. Dr KC is on 17th day of his 16th hunger strike demanding reforms in the country’s medical education and health care system.
