One person died in a shootout between police and smugglers at Shankarpur in Siddharthanagar Municipality of Rupandehi district on Saturday night.
Rupandehi police chief SP Hridaya Thapa said the incident occurred at around 12 midnight when the smuggler fired towards the patrolling police team. Police said the man, believed to be a 35-year-old Indian national, died while on his way to the hospital. One police personnel was also injured in the shootout.
Police recovered an automatic loaded pistol and a Indian registered motorcycle (UP 53 H2028) from the incident site.
