Nepal Communist Party (NCP) lawmaker Ram Bir Manandhar has said that he would resign from the post after the party’s official decision.

Organising a press conference in the Capital on Tuesday, Manandhar, who was elected from Kathmandu Constituency-7, has said that he has already handed over resignation letter to the party.

Manandhar clarified that he would hand over the resignation letter to House Speaker after the party approved the letter tomorrow.

“I had tabled an application at the Secretariat’s meeting on Monday to approve my resignation. I think the party will deliver its official decision by tomorrow and then I will resign from the seat,” he said.

Claiming that there is no condition in the resignation, Manandhar said that he could be the member of National Assembly and even minister as per the decision of the party.

“Party had made me ward chairman in 1992 and 1997. I become lawmaker in 2013 and 2017 that’s why I have no condition,” he said, adding, “I can be the member of National Assembly and minister if the party wants.”

Responding to a query from a journalist, lawmaker Manandhar said that resigning from the post would be an honour and not a betrayal to the people.

“People want development. We have done trustworthy works in ward-7,” said Manandhar, “There won’t be any problem in fulfilling the promises I made to people as it is a team work.”

Manandhar, who defeated Rastriya Prajatantra Party candidate Bikram Bahadur Thapa by 8,000 votes to become the MP of Kathmandu-7, is giving up his seat to accommodate NCP senior leader Bamdev Gautam, who failed to get elected in the 2017 parliamentary election from Bardiya constituency-1.

Leader Gautam had lost to Nepali Congress candidate Sanjay Kumar Gautam with a margin of 753 votes.
