Chief Minister (CM) Trilochan Bhatta of Province 7 has enrolled his daughter in a community school at Dhangadhi in Kailali district.
“It is meaningless urging others to enrol children in public school when your own children go to private schools. Quality of education in community schools will never be enhanced unless leaders, teachers, government employees and those holding public posts send their children to government schools,” said CM Bhatta after he enrolled his daughter Pushpa in Uttar Behadi-based Rastriya Madhyamik Bidhyalaya on Wednesday.
CM Bhatta also attended the student enrolment campaign organised by the school. He distributed textbooks to the newly enrolled students.
Addressing the function, CM Bhatta said he decided to enrol his daughter in the school with a belief that other parents will be encouraged to do the same. He also urged public school teachers to enrol their children at the schools where they teach.
He also urged civil society leaders to become guardians of the poor and disadvantaged children and enrol them in schools.
Public schools in Kailali began student enrolment campaign from Sunday with an objective of providing school education to the children of school-going age.
Around 10,000 (3 percent) children of the school-going age in Kailali were out of school in the last academic session, according to the District Education Office.
Ganesh Bahadur Singh, district education officer, hopes for the school enrolment rate to improve significantly with the involvement of elected representatives and local governments to send every child to school.
