A Myadi police (temporary police) died when police opened fire following a clash between regular police and temporary police personnel in Kalikot district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Bibek Aidi (21) of Raskot Municipality-2 of the district. Aidi sustained bullet in his head.
The clash ensued after the enraged temporary police personnel started pelting stones at the District Police Office arguing that the DPO carried out irregularities while distributing salary.
The temporary police staged a demonstration expressing dissatisfaction that police distributed only Rs 58,000 of 55 days.
It has been learnt that police fired four to five rounds of tear gas canisters to disperse the mob.
Eyewitnesses said that Aidi died on the spot while Chief District Officer (CDO) Badrinath Gaire said that he was rushed to the District Hospital, Kalikot, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The District Police Office, Kalikot, however, claimed that Aidi died after being hit by a stone thrown by his fellow Myadi cops.
Following the death of Aidi, the anguished temporary police personnel vandalised police posts located in Pratima Chok and Zero Point.
The situation is normal at the present, CDO Gaire said.
