A meeting of three major parties—Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre)—summoned by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Wednesday has decided to hold the provincial and federal parliamentary elections at one go.
The three parties made such decision at a time when Election Commission, a constitutional body responsible for holding the elections in the country, has been showing legal and technical hurdles in conducting both the elections together.
The party leaders present on the occasion have charged PM Deuba with the responsibility to eliminate the legal and technical hurdles by holding discussions with EC officials.
An all-party meeting has been convened following the agreement between the three parties. It is learnt the issue will be discussed once again in the all-party meet.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Deuba held consultations with EC officials to inquire the possibility of holding both the elections to provincial assemblies and the House of Representatives at once. The EC officials had reiterated the difficulty in conducting both the elections at once.
