Rana, a resident of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-4, on Wednesday turned himself in to the Supreme Court (SC) which then sent him to Dilli Bazaar Prison, according to SC Spokesperson Mahendranath Upadhyay.
Thapa is the sixth former police official to be sent to prison in relation to the corruption case in the last one week. Four former senior police official, including two ex-chiefs of Nepal Police, were sent to prison on June 21.
Likewise, former additional inspector general Shyam Singh Thapa, another convict in the scam, had surrendered before the court on June 25.
The Sudan scam is one of the of the largest corruption cases in the country involving embezzlement of more than Rs 3 million during the purchase of armoured personnel carriers for Nepal Police peacekeepers deployed in the Darfur region.
