The government on Monday promoted DIG Aryal to the post of inspector general (IG). DIG Silwal moved the apex court on Tuesday, challenging the government decision of appointing Aryal as police chief and sought an interim order.
A single bench of Justice Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada ordered the government to submit clarification regarding the appointment of chief of Nepal Police but observed that there was no need to issue an interim order as demanded by the petitioner.
This is the second time Silwal has moved the court in as many months. Hours after the government promoted DIG Jaya Bahadur Chand to the post of IG on February 12, DIG Silwal had challenged the decision. On March 21 a full bench of the apex court quashed the February 12 government decision, asking the government to take seniority and merit into account while promoting police officials.
