Mahat flying in to Delhi to set the tone

Minister for Foreign Affairs Prakash Sharan Mahat is arriving in New Delhi on Sunday to finalise the agendas of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal who is set to visit India from September 15.
Before Mahat’s visit, a Cabinet meeting will take final decisions PM Dahal’s visit on the agendas, based on which talks will be held in New Delhi.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi, who had arrived in New Delhi as a special envoy of PM Dahal, had held discussions about the tentative agendas.
Mahat will hold talks with his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj during a lunch meeting on Monday afternoon. Similarly, Mahat is scheduled to meet Indian ministers to discuss the sectorial agendas of visit. He is also likely to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
One of the prominent agendas of PM Dahal’s visit is finalising the joint detailed project report of the Pancheshwor Development Authority. Due to the lack of consensus on issues such as cost calculation and fund arrangement among others, construction of the project is yet to start.
Construction of Hulaki Road is another prominent agenda that PM Dahal will take up during his visit. Mahat will hold talks about this with the concerned minister in India.
The appointment of consultant and funding gap are the two major outstanding issues related to construction of Hulaki Road. Similarly, issues related to acquisition of land are another obstacle that is delaying the project.
Presenting detailed programmes to implement the grant announced by India soon after the earthquake is also high on PM Dahal’s agenda.
Construction of cross-border railway and a polytechnic institute in Pokhara are other agendas of the visit. Chances of signing a memorandum of understanding between Radio Nepal and All India Radio are also likely during PM Dahal’s visit.
