Kavre police has confirmed 27 deaths in a bus accident at Birtadeurali VDC in Kavre district on Monday.
Kavre police chief SP Rajeshnath Bastola informed 26 persons died on the spot while another died during treatment at Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu.
The bus with the registration number Ba 3 Kha 106 was en route from Kathmandu to Madankudari in Koshipari area of Kavre when it swerved off the road and plunged down the hillside, around 500 metres, at Birtadeurali VDC in Kavre.
The engine of the overloaded bus stalled causing it to plunge down. Some 90 passengers were said to be travelling on the 35-seater bus.
