Grant rice stuck at NFC warehouses
The government’s programme to distribute rice in drought-hit villages in Humla has hit a snag as the authorities concerned could not transport the foodstuff to the district.
The government’s programme to distribute rice in drought-hit villages in Humla has hit a snag as the authorities concerned could not transport the foodstuff to the district.
The state-run food agency, Nepal Food Corporation (NFC), was supposed to supply the grant rice provided by the Bangladeshi government for the earthquake victims, to its depots in Humla months ago. Around 10,000 qunitals of rice meant for Humla is currently stuck at NFC warehouses in Nepalgunj and Surkhet.
Narayan KC, of NFC office in Humla, said the food for work programme in the district has been affected as the pledged rice has not reached them.
Shankar Sapkota, the chief of sale and distribution branch of the NFC, said the rice transport was halted because the food management committees in Humla and other districts in the Karnali region increased the transport fare.
