A landslide triggered by heavy rains has destroyed a micro-hydro project in Gumda—one of the VDCs that was worst affected by last year’s earthquakes in Gorkha.
The reservoir of Manglungkhola Hydropower Project was destroyed by the landslide on Sunday. The 38-killowatt power project came into operation only a week ago following repair works on damage caused by last year’s devastating earthquake. The incident has left around 400 households without power.
“The hydropower project was destroyed within a week of its operation. The landslide swept away the reservoir and about 150-metre canal,” Bhim Bahadur Gurung, a local told the Post over the phone. Most of the 70 micro-hydro projects in Gorkha were damaged by the quakes last year.
