With the fall in fuel prices, the customary drop in public transport fares came into effect on Sunday. The Department of Transport Management revise the fares every time fuel prices change by a minimum of Rs5.
The department decreased public vehicle fares by 2.53 percent and cargo fares by 3.76, 3.28 and 1.65 percent in Tarai, Hills and Mountains.
In the Valley, minimum transport fare has fallen from Rs13.49 to Rs13.07 while maximum fare decreased from Rs25 to Rs24. Taxi fares also dropped from Rs36 per kilometre to Rs35. For long-distance vehicles too, fares fell minimally. The travel cost from Kathmandu to Biratnagar was down Rs25 from Rs973 to Rs948 while that from Pokhara to Janakpur decreased by Rs17 from Rs659 to Rs642.
