Kanchanjanga Secondary School at Yamphudin in Taplejung has got nil results in SLC examinations in the past three years.

All 11 students who got chance to appear in the supplementary examinations also failed in Science this year.

As a result, relation in between parents and students has worsened. Parents blamed that the students failed in the examinations due to the lack of qualified teachers whereas teachers said students failed due to their carelessness.

Meanwhile, District Education Office (DEO) has neither enquired teachers on the matter nor initiated efforts though the school’s performance is poor for three consecutive years.

The school boasts one of best science laboratory in the district while teachers are trained for providing quality education.

However, students are unable to secure good marks. Headmaster Amar Kumar Rai said they are planning to organise Deusi, a cultural programme, in the upcoming Tihar festival to raise fund for running a hostel and paying teachers for extra work. “We are going to appoint qualified Science teacher very soon though we lack resources,” he said.

Teachers and parents said they are preparing to visit the DEO with some plans. According to School Management Committee Chairman Abirman Rai,

all teachers working in the school are from the same village.
