Remembering his unparalleled contributions to the district, the mourners shedding tears said Thapa was a competent leader with the capability and skills to lead the nation towards development. Thapa had played an active role in the construction of the 52 kilometre Dharan-Dhankuta road and the establishment of Pakhribas Agricultural Research Centre, drinking water supply project, health and educational facilities, among others, in the district. Talking about his stature in politics, the party’s district chairperson Kumar Bahadur Thapa said leaders, both from the ruling and opposing blocs, always sought Thapa’s opinion for initiating any political movement.
Thapa had a long political career and served as prime minister for five terms besides holding several
ministerial posts from 1960-1968. Thapa, 88, died during treatment at Medanta Hospital in New Delhi on Wednesday night. He is survived by three daughters and a son.
