A 32-year-old woman died after being attacked by a wild elephant at Nijgadh Municipality-8 in the district on Tuesday.bookmarkA 32-year-old woman died after being attacked by a wild elephant at Nijgadh Municipality-8 in the district on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Parwati Majhi of Kanakpur-5, Rautahat. With this incident, as many as 12 people have died in attacks by wild elephants in the district in the past two years. Deputy Superintendent of Police Bishnu Hari Koirala said Majhi was trampled to death by a wild elephant while she had gone to jungle to collect firewood. A week ago, 60-year-old Kul Man Thing of Dumarwana Municipality-16 had succumbed to injuries he received in elephant attack.

Chief of Tamagadhi Sector Forest Office, Upendra Patel, said they have conducted various awareness programmes to help people living in villages near forest areas on precaution to protect themselves during elephant attacks.
