Young Presidents’ Organisation, a community of worldwide entrepreneurs, held a conclave in Kathmandu on Friday.
The conclave was organised by the Singapore Chapter of the organisation and was attended by around 40 entrepreneurs from different countries in the Southeast Asian region.
Binod Chaudhary, the keynote speaker of the event, highlighted the untapped potential of the Nepali economy to foreign entrepreneurs.
He requested the attendees to invest in Nepal, as the Nepali economy has been progressing despite great hurdles such as the Maoist insurgency, political instability, power shortage, earthquake and blockade.
“Nepal had a positive economic growth even during the armed revolution,” said Chaudhary. “That’s because Nepal is a land of opportunities, if given enough effort, it will give the best return.”
The participants were mainly concerned about the entry barrier in the Nepali economy and the unstable politics of Nepal.
Bhaichung Bhutia, former Indian footballer and the guest at the event expressed his worry about the future course of Nepali politics after the formation of new coalition among parties and its impact on economic progress.
The foreign entrepreneurs asked Chaudhary about his role as a lawmaker in making favourable conditions for investors, to which he replied, “The latest election has brought a lot of young leaders in the parliament, they have a fresh and energetic approach to economic prosperity, my experience of an entrepreneur will help to make a team of lawmakers that will make a favourable environment for entrepreneurship.”
Chaudhary also shared his experience of his entrepreneurial journey and gave advice to entrepreneurs to achieve greater success in their careers and personal life.
According to the organisers, the delegation will study the probability of bringing in foreign direct investment in key sectors such as infrastructure, IT and energy.
