Discover Nepal’s forgotten cuisines at Hyatt Place Kathmandu
Lost Cuisines of Nepal, the weeklong food festival by the Kathmandu-based hotel, aims to highlight dishes from Nepal’s indigenous communities.Post Report
On October 29, Hyatt Place Kathmandu kicked off its weeklong food festival, ‘Lost Cuisines of Nepal’. The festival, which focuses on highlighting Nepal’s indigenous cuisines, has been organised by the Kathmandu-based hotel in collaboration with Raithane—an establishment known for championing traditional ingredients and dishes.
The food festival is being hosted at Zing-World of Flavours, Hyatt Place Kathmandu’s multi-cuisine restaurant. From phalgi, winter stew prepared using young green maize by the Sherpa community, to tauruwa, a Maithili/Tharu delicacy of vegetables deep fried in chickpea or rice flour batter, the festival features little-known delicacies from communities across the country.
“With this festival, our aim is not just to present guests with a culinary experience but also have it serve as a window into the lifestyles of Nepalese people,” says Pawan Golyan, chairman of Golyan Group, which owns Hyatt Place Kathmandu and Mato, a venture that promotes locally sourced agro-based products.
