The Federation of Nepal Cottage and Small Industries (FNCSI) is hosting international industrial trade fair in Kathmandu from April 27 to promote sales and exports of Nepali goods. The 14th edition of the fair, which will continue till May 1, will showcase goods manufactured by micro, cottage and small enterprises based in 77 districts of the country. Goods manufactured in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and China will also be featured at the event. These goods will be showcased through 250 stalls, according to the organiser of the fair.
Goods displayed at the fair will shed light on works of over 350,000 micro, cottage and small enterprises operating in the country, said FNSCI President Shyam Prasad Giri.
Micro, cottage and small enterprises generate a big chunk of jobs in the country and play an instrumental role in Nepal’s economic development. Yet many of these enterprises are not growing at a desired pace and struggle to stay profitable, as they have failed to embrace emerging technologies, face problems in gaining access to finance and lack expertise in business management.
“The fair will try to look into these issues that are preventing proper growth of micro, cottage and small enterprises, and provide a platform to participants to share knowledge and skills,” Giri said. The fair will also organise the third meeting of the South Asian Countries SME Forum, which will be attended by representatives of the umbrella bodies of small and medium enterprises based in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The fair will also host a networking event, where Nepali entrepreneurs can engage with Chinese entrepreneurs.
“The goods displayed at the fair and networking events will help entrepreneurs to promote their goods in the country and abroad,” said Mohan Katwal, coordinator of the event, adding, “The fair will also host business-to-business, business-to-consumer and business-to-government networking events.” The five-day event is expected to be attended by over 200,000 people and generate a turnover of over Rs70 million.
