Swarnim Wagle has resigned from the post of the vice chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC), the apex body that frames the government’s plans and policies.

Wagle, who was appointed as the de facto chief of the NPC by Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government, tendered his resignation on Sunday after KP Sharma Oli joined the office as the new prime minister. “I decided to quit to pave the way for the new government to work as per its plans,” Wagle told journalists on Sunday.

Wagle had assumed office expressing commitment to overhaul the NPC; frame Vision 2030 document and country’s roadmap for implementation of Sustainable Development Goals; enable the NPC to play a coordinator’s role in implementing big-ticket infrastructure projects; promote cooperative federalism; and encourage evidence-based policy-making, among others. He was successful in meeting most of the goals.
