Sudhin Mathur, country manager at Motorola Mobility, Lenovo Mobile Business Group of Nepal, was recently in Nepal to launch smartphones from popular Moto C and Moto E series in Nepal. Sudhin Mathur has over 20 years of experience in business management and customer marketing in varied industries. He discussed ways to promote Motorola phones in Nepal in a short interview with Abhishek Chitrakar of The Post. Excerpts:
How do you assess Nepali mobile phone market?
It’s a rapidly growing market. Of course the market is not as big as India, but it’s one of the fastest growing markets, which sees sales of almost 2.5 million to 3 million smartphones per year. It is, thus, an interesting market for us.
What do you expect to be the market share of Motorola phones in Nepal?
Wherever we go, our aspirations has always been to be in the top 3. In India, which is a very big market, we are there already. I see no reason why we cannot achieve the same goal here in Nepal. We do want to be among the top three players within a year’s time.
How do you intend to establish your presence here?
First of all, we want to ensure availability of our products. We have, therefore, appointed Lifecom, which is also the authorised distributor of Lenovo products, as the authorised distributor of Motorola phones in Nepal. This distributor has a very robust network in Nepal. We believe Lifecom will help Motorola to reach out to 75 to 80 percent of the smartphone market here. We also want to ensure consumers get the best experience, so we have trained lots of people. In addition, we also want to raise people’s awareness about Motorola products. People need to know that Motorola is here in Nepal. In this regard, we have launched a complete 360 degree campaign beginning Wednesday. Lastly, we want our phones to be affordable. We have looked into the Nepali market, the market leaders here and products they are selling. We did this study to ensure we are selling products at right prices.
Are you planning to launch other series of Motorola?
We will definitely launch G series, X series and Z series in Nepal. We do want all our products to be available in Nepal. However, in the initial phase, only phones of E series and C series will be available here.
