A 32-year old migrant worker died in a kitchen fire at Kurdistan in Iraq on Wednesday.
Niru Sunar of Pirti-7 in Ramechhap district was burnt to death while preparing food on a gas stove. She breathed her last while being treated at Erbil Hospital.
Sunar’s sister Phulmaya, who also reached Iraq to work seven months ago, said her sister was cooking eggs with oil.
“Unfortunately, the oil splashed on her clothes and the fire from another stove engulfed her,” she said, adding that Sunar was unable to douse the fire.
Sunar had been working at Hirsute for the past four years. “Everything was going all right but this is a very unfortunate incident,” said Phulmaya.
The body of Sunar has been kept at Erbil Hospital. The owner of the building she lived in said they were outside when the incident occurred. “We kept her as our daughter,” Chairman of Non-Resident Nepalis’ Association in Iraq Lalkaji Gurung quoted the owner as saying. The owners are willing to help raise Sunar’s children, said Gurung.
Gurung said they are in process to send the body to Nepal. “We will send the body within a week,” he added.
Another woman was also burnt to death while cooking food in Iraq recently.
