As all the bodies could not be accommodated at the Arya and Rajrajeshwori cremation sites, the rest were cremated at the banks of the Bagmati River. The bodies are being transported to Pashupatinath since Saturday evening.

A total of 16 temporary ghats (podium for cremation) were created at the bank near the Tilganga bridge at the side of Pashupatinath Temple. The cremation of all the bodies was completed by 3 pm.

The Pashupati area has a total of 12 permanent ghats including one meant for a VIP or VVIP.

Meanwhile, the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) is finding it difficult to construct the temporary cremation podiums and supply necessary materials needed for the final ritual.

The Timber Corporation of Nepal located in the Pashupati area has been providing woods needed for cremation of the bodies of the dead cost free, said General Manager Birendra Kumar Yadav. Cremating a single body consumes a total of 250 kilos of wood which totals up to wood amounting to Rs 750,000 for 300 bodies. The Corporation is preparing to bring more wood from Bara and Nawalparasi. The wood depot has enough wood in stock for cremating around 2,000 bodies, according to the Corporation.

On any given normal day the Pashupati cremation site witnesses cremation of around 20 to 30 bodies while the PADT is struggling to cope with the increasing number of bodies coming for cremation with failure to provide enough Bhramans (priests) for final ritualistic performance.
