Bhaktapur getting facelift for upcoming Saarc Summit
The major sites and monuments of historical and cultural significance in Bhaktapur district are receiving a facelift in view of the upcoming Saarc Summit to be held in the Capital next monthThe Historical Monuments Conservation and Upkeep Office at the Department of Archaeology and Durbar Management Office Bhaktapur (DMOB) have initiated the renovation and painting of the sites and monuments of historical and cultural significance.
According to Mangala Pradhan, the chief of DMOB, the office has already undertaken the renovation and maintenance of such places and infrastructures under various packages.
Changu Narayan Temple, the first site from Nepal that was enlisted in the UNESCO’s list of world heritages, is undergoing a facelift under six phases with the budget of Rs. 3 million, she informed.
Similarly, Bhaktapur Durbra Square is getting a makeover under fifteen packages.
Senior engineer at the DMOB, Mohan Krishna Shrestha, said that places spanning from the entrance of the square to the Dattatreya temple are being decorated as the VIP guests of the Saarc Summit will be there for sightseeing.
Shrestha further said that the renovation of the prime places and the monuments is aimed to be achieved by mid-November.
"We would have achieved the target before the deadline but could not commence the work early, thanks to the delayed budget," he continued, "But as we have it now, we are accelerating the work so that we can finish it by the mid of November."
