MBBS classes to begin at Dasharath Chand Health Science University this year
50-bed Geta Hospital to be upgraded to 300-bed facility.Post Report
The government has announced that academic programmes, including MBBS, will begin this fiscal year at the Martyr Dasharath Chand University of Health Science in Geta, Kailali.
Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle made the announcement on Friday while presenting the budget for fiscal year 2026–27 in Parliament.
The university will launch teaching and learning activities across four disciplines, including medicine, as part of its first academic intake.
The government had already decided to introduce medical education at the institution alongside upgrading the 50-bed Geta Hospital into a 300-bed facility.
According to the university administration, it had earlier initiated procedures with the Medical Education Commission for 50 MBBS seats, 30 BSc nursing seats, 20 medical lab technology seats and 20 optometry seats.
The upgrade is aimed at supporting both clinical services and academic programmes under the university.
The university has also sought Rs 2.58 billion for hospital operations and academic activities in the upcoming fiscal year.
