Nepal on Wednesday reported 2,634 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the nationwide infection tally to 688,307.

Similarly, 1,206 people tested positive in a total of 4,922 antigen tests, according to the Health Ministry.

As of Wednesday, 3,574,864 PCR and 304,546 antigen tests have been carried out across the country.

A total of 10,886 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.

In its regular situation report, the ministry did not mention the death toll over the past 24 hours. It, however, reported 33 Covid-19-related fatalities, which included the number of deaths managed by Nepal Army on different dates.

The countrywide death toll has now reached 9,791. The number of active cases stands at 29,444.

According to the ministry, 649,072 infected people have recovered from the disease so far; 1,993 of them in the last 24 hours.

Kathmandu Valley recorded 859 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 559 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 206 in Lalitpur and 94 in Bhaktapur.

In the past 24 hours, 602 new infections were recorded in Province 1, 28 in Province 2, 1,241 in Bagmati, 582 in Gandaki, 118 in Lumbini, 20 in Karnali and 43 in Sudurpaschim.

According to the data released by the ministry, 11 districts are home to more than 500 active cases each and 23 other districts host more than 200 active cases each.

On Wednesday, 611 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 168—48 in Province 1, 89 in Bagmati, 19 in Gandaki, seven in Lumbini and two in Sudurpaschim and three in Karnali—were on ventilator support.

Nepal on Tuesday reported 2,726 new coronavirus cases and 20 deaths. Similarly, 2,391 new coronavirus cases and 25 deaths were recorded on Monday and 1,539 new cases and 18 Covid-19 related deaths were reported on Sunday.
