Nepal on Tuesday reported 9,317 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the highest single day spike, taking the nationwide coronavirus infection tally to 413,111.

The Health Ministry in its regular situation report did not mention the death toll for the past 24 hours, but it reported 225 fatalities which includes the number of Covid-19 deaths managed by Nepal Army on different dates.

According to Samir Kumar Adhikari, joint spokesperson of the ministry, more than 100 have died in the last 24 hours. He did not specify the exact number.

The countrywide death toll has now reached 4,084. The number of active cases stands at 97,008.

The positivity rate was 45 percent on Tuesday. It was 52 on Monday, a record.

According to the ministry, 312,019 infected people have recovered from the disease so far, 5,225 of them in the last 24 hours.

Kathmandu Valley recorded 3,927 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 2,788 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 602 in Lalitpur and 537 in Bhaktapur.

In the past 24 hours, 4,655 new infections were recorded in Bagmati Province, 1,878 in Lumbini, 862 in Province 1, 643 in Gandaki, 440 in Province 2, 429 in Karnali and 410 in Sudurpaschim.

As of Tuesday, 2,672,726 PCR tests have been carried out across the country.

A total of 20,596 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the data released by the ministry.

On Tuesday, 1084 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 290—184 in Bagmati, 37 in Province 2, 29 in Province 1, 13 in Lumbini, 11 in Gandaki and eight each in Karnali and Sudurpaschim—were on ventilator support.

Nepal on Monday reported 9,127 new cases and 139 Covid-19 related deaths. Similarly, 88 Covid-19 related deaths and 8,777 new cases were reported on Sunday and 53 Covid-19 related deaths and 8,287 new cases were recorded on Saturday.
