Post Report
Gallery 108, located in Durbar Marg, is hosting ‘Kalāko Vansha: Exhibit 2’, a spiritual showcase featuring the 108 Lokeshwaras by the late Siddhi Muni Shakya, one of the most revered figures in Newa devotional art. The exhibit opened on Wednesday and will run until July 27.
This marks the first public display of Shakya’s complete series of 108 Lokeshwara sketches—each intricately drawn and imbued with sacred symbolism. Karunamaya (Avalokiteshvara), the central figure in the series, is venerated in the Buddhist tradition as the embodiment of compassion. The 108 forms represent various facets of spiritual aid—from healing to enlightenment—and are considered significant in Newa Buddhism.
The exhibition is part of the ongoing Kalāko Vansha (Lineage of Art) series, which highlights the enduring legacy of four generations of Newa painters.
The space offers visitors a contemplative space and highlights the spiritual and artistic nuances of Shakya’s practice.
