Nepathya set for maiden concert in Malaysia
Folk-rock band to hold concert in Kuala Lumpur as it reaches audiences of Nepali migrant workers abroadPost Report
Nepali folk-rock band Nepathya is set to perform in Kuala Lumpur for the first time, marking the group’s debut concert in Malaysia during its three-and-a-half-decade journey.
The band, which returned to Nepal last week after tours in Canada and New Zealand, will perform on June 1 at Zepp Kuala Lumpur, located in the Bukit Bintang area of the Malaysian capital. Malaysia will become the 20th country and Kuala Lumpur the 58th international city where Nepathya has performed.
Known for its blend of Nepali folk melodies and rock music, the band said the concert is aimed particularly at Nepalis working abroad. Lead singer Amrit Gurung said the group was excited to finally meet audiences in Malaysia who had long been in touch through social media.
“We are eager to share a sense of home with young Nepalis whose remittance earnings support the country’s economy,” Gurung said. He added that his own family’s history as part of the Lahure tradition also connected him to the former “Malaya”.
Local organiser Arbitrary Events said there has been strong interest in the concert among Nepalis living across Malaysia. According to the organiser, discussions about the event have spread widely within the community, with growing enquiries about tickets and arrangements.
Nepathya’s management company Nepalaya said the band would travel with its full team of musicians, technicians and managers to maintain the same production standard seen in its previous international tours.
The concert lineup will feature Gurung alongside drummer Dhruva Lama, bassist Subin Shakya, guitarist Niraj Gurung, madal player Shanti Rayamajhi and keyboardist Dinesh Raj Regmi.
Tickets for the concert are available through Nepathya’s official website, while local organisers in Malaysia have also arranged phone booking and ticket delivery services for attendees.
