Group exhibit at Music Art Gallery
Group art exhibit titled Remix Media and Local Art is slated to open today at the Music Art Gallery, in Jhamshikel. Group art exhibit titled Remix Media and Local Art is slated to open today at the Music Art Gallery, in Jhamshikel. The exhibit will feature paintings by seven artists—Sashi Bikram Shah, Govinda Dongol, Babu Kaji Maharjan, Asha Dongol, Erina Tamrakar, Kate Mcelory and Sunil Man Shakya.
The exhibit will showcase wide array of paintings, ranging across different mediums, created by these artists, each of whom are known for their unique styles.
Sashi Bikram Shah is noted for his use of primary element of his composition, galloping horses—which has been iconic to his identity. Shah’s work on display at the exhibit makes use of the same symbol.
While artist Govinda Dongol, best known for his meticulous charcoal work, has also presented some of his creations through the medium.
Similarly, the exhibition will feature new outlook to traditional windows, through the work of artist Babu Kaji Maharjan. A multi-disciplinary artist, Asha Dongol’s artworks in the exhibit embrace themes such as urbanisation, consumerism and ecology.
Artist Dongol’s work on display make use of a technique called polarity of visuals—east with west, the traditional with the contemporary, the past with the present and the mythic with the real—to address these issues. Likewise, visual artist Erina Tamrakar’s work focuses on women and their relationships with the society, conveying a commentary on the status of women in Nepal.
Another artist Kate Mcelory uses wide range of media including drawing, photographs, mixed media, ceramics and performance art to capture the evolving states of the individual. She explores this fluctuation between states of being in her paintings. The exhibition also marks debut for artist Sunil Man Shakya.
The exhibition will continue till 30 September.
