Politician and literary figure BP Koirala was commemorated amid a literary programme organised in Pokhara on Friday. Organised jointly by Nepal Writers’ Association and BP Koirala Memorial Trust, the event commemorated Koirala’s 103rd birth anniversary.
The event saw over 50 litterateurs from around the country recite poems, songs, and ghazals in memory of the venerated writer and politician, celebrating Koirala’s contribution to Nepali literature and politics, including his struggles, and political ideology.
The writers also shared their concern about various existing problems in the country such as foreign employment, poverty and others.
Speaking at the event, former chairperson of Nepal Writers’ Association, Tulasi Bhattarai, said, “BP Koirala is one of the most important historic figures for Nepal, not just as a politician and writer. So, it is really great to see literary figures from around the country coming together to honour him in this way.”
The programme also saw the presence of Koirala’s two sons, Dr Shashank Koirala and Prakash Koirala. Dr Sashank Koirala also shared some of his childhood memories with his father at the event.
The literary figures present at the programme included Ramlal Joshi, Sharawan Mukarung, Bibas Pokharel, Uttam Limbu, Saraswoti Shrestha, among others.
