White Sun releasing in the US this week
Nepali feature film Seto Surya (White Sun) was one of the most venerated Nepali films of 2016.
Nepali feature film Seto Surya (White Sun) was one of the most venerated Nepali films of 2016. The film won several awards at the international film circuit, including Inter-film Award at the Venice Film Festival and Best Film Award at the Singapore International Film Festival, and was selected as Nepal’s official entry for the upcoming Academy Award.
The film is now slated for shows in theatres across the US. As part of which, the film will start its theatrical run with the screening at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), in New York, on September 6.
The film will have one show each day at the MoMA, until Sunday, September 10.
The film will then travel to Los Angeles, where it will be screened at the Lemlee Music Hall, starting September 29. According to the film’s distributor in the US, the process of taking White Sun in other cities as well is currently ongoing.
Likewise, the film is also to release in the Netherlands in October this year. “We are really happy that the film is going to represent Nepal at the Academy Awards. And now that the film is going to have a theatrical releases in the US and the Netherlands, we take this as an opportunity to spread the identity of Nepali film industry,” said Asha Magarati, actor and director at Aadi Production, producer of the film.
