At a literary event held in the Capital, two of Safu Publications’ recent literary endeavours—These Fine Lines: Poems of Restraint and Abandon, an anthology of poems by Nepali female poets, and the sixth volume of La.Lit, New Fiction from Nepal—were launched at RS Moto, Gahanapokhari, on Saturday.
The event, organised by La.Lit and Word Warriors, kicked off with poetry readings by poets featured in the anthology These Fine Lines: Poems of Restraint and Abandon. The anthology, a collection of poems written exclusively by Nepali women, is edited by Itisha Giri and put together by the Word Warriors, a spoken word poetry group. Writers such as Prateebha Tuladhar, Yukta Bajracharya, Ujjwala Maharjan, Anudeep Dewan, Nikita Tripathi have contributed their poems to the collection.
Through our poems, we wanted to reach out to female poets and see what it meant to explore what they felt around them. The poems in the anthology are an attempt to show what it is like to be a woman in Nepal. We hope young Nepali women read these poems and find something that moves them,” says Itisha Giri.
The sixth volume of La.Lit, a literary magazine that celebrates the beauty of writing, was also released at the event. The latest volume is a collection of 19 short stories which were the best selected entries from the Writing Nepal contest held in 2015. The event also saw a talk by writer Manjushree Thapa, and live music by Shreeti Pradhan.
