Botanical art workshop at Patan Museum
The Kathmandu Contemporary Arts Center at the Patan Museum, Lalitpur, will be hosting an exclusive botanical art workshop on April 8 and 9.RBGE is a scientific centre for the study of plants, their diversity and conservation practices. During the two-day workshop, the artists from the institute will teach participants skills regarding the drawing and painting of plants.
The first day will house a morning and afternoon session conducted by Sharon Tingey and Lyn Campbell. The morning session will cover tonal rendering and line work with pencils—while exploring perspective and composition. The second session will be about the mixing of paints to capture colors and the modeling of subjects in three dimensions.
On the second day, the workshop, which will be conducted by Isik Guner and Jaqui Pestell, will primarily aim at the application and details of paint in botanical art. It will focus on the use of watercolour for layering and achieving details of minute areas such as the veins and buds. During the workshop, participants will also be learning and experimenting with wash, wet-on-wet, and dry brush techniques.
Deadline for application is on March 20. Interested applicants can contact artist Neera Joshi Pradhan at [email protected]. The first workshop requires participants to be interested in the art of drawing. For the second workshop, those with some experience in watercolour application are preferred.
