Budget-friendly neighbourhoods for Nepali students in Frankfurt
From campus districts to quiet suburbs, a guide to student living in this central German city.Post Report
Oberrad
Oberrad is a district located in the southeastern part of Frankfurt am Main. Bordered by Offenbach’s Kaiserlei district, Oberrad lies to the south and west of Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen.
Pros
The neighbourhood is known for its quiet, tranquil atmosphere due to its proximity to the city forest. Along with affordable rent, Oberrad is well connected by tram to other parts of Frankfurt.
Cons
Locals have admitted to experiencing daily noise disturbances from aeroplanes. Another downside is that it lacks many amenities.
Höchst
Höchst is a little town located west of Frankfurt’s city centre. With medieval architecture and a rich cultural history, Höchst is known as a vibrant neighbourhood.

Pros
For shopping, the town has a weekly Höchst market, where students can easily access goods and necessities. Students can also access transportation via the town’s train station and bus lines.
Cons
It has fewer clubs and nightlife spots than central Frankfurt.
Bockenheim
Bockenheim is a centrally located district in the northwestern part of Frankfurt am Main. It borders the Westend district to the east and the districts of Hausen and Rodelheim to the west.

Pros
Bockenheim is a student-friendly neighbourhood with plenty of affordable flats and rooms that are popular among university students. It’s close to the Goethe University and has good public transport connections, making it easy to reach other parts of the city.
Cons
Because it’s a popular student area, some parts can feel busy or noisy at times, and rents, while cheaper than central districts, are still moderate compared with outer suburbs.
Ostend
Ostend is situated in the eastern section of Frankfurt am Main, stretching from the edge of the Innenstadt towards the Main River. It borders districts like Bornheim to the north and Sachsenhausen across the river to the south.

Pros
Ostend is just east of the city centre and is emerging as a hub of new development, local restaurants, and cultural spaces. It’s very close to central Frankfurt and well-connected by public transport, making it convenient for students who want short commutes.
Cons
While rents can be lower than in premium inner districts, Ostend is still part of the central urban area and isn’t as cheap as outer suburbs. Amenities are improving but still developing.
Nordend
Offering a high quality of life, Nordend is popular among students for its vibrant, central location and safe neighbourhood.

Pros
The neighbourhood is known as the heart of Frankfurt’s cafe culture. It also offers convenient transportation options, as it is within walking distance of Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and a short bike ride from other campuses.
Cons
The primary challenge is the competitive housing markets. Finding an affordable shared apartment can also be difficult.
